GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK The Macklin Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) is joining with hundreds of other organizations in the United States and more than 70 countries in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, November 17 – 23, 2008. Founded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in the United States and Make Your Mark in the United Kingdom, Global Entrepreneurship Week is designed to focus attention on the power of entrepreneurship to drive our global economy. To highlight its commitment, Macklin CFE has organized four activities this week to serve both small businesses and students. November 17, Student Lecture. Dr. Yvonne Rosenberg, President and Chief Scientific Officer, ProCell Corporation will speak to biotechnology students on Montgomery College’s Germantown campus. ProCell is a successful early stage biotechnology company and is soon to be graduating from the Maryland Technology Development Center technology incubator. Dr. Rosenberg will discuss her experience as an entrepreneur in starting and growing a biotechnology company. November 18, Small Business Seminar. Macklin CFE and Corporate Network Services will present a seminar, “Using IT to Enhance Your Company’s Productivity.” The seminar will explore elements of IT systems that will enable small businesses to make smart, cost effective decisions that will enhance their productivity and bottom line in this time of economic uncertainty. The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County in conjunction with Macklin CFE and Montgomery College’s School of Art and Design will present a seminar for visual artists on “Working and Surviving as an Artist.” A panel of distinguished artists, gallery directors, curators and art historians will discuss practices and strategies for conducting business in the visual arts world. A reception, gallery show and tour of the Cafritz Arts Center will preceed the seminar from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The seminar will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Cost: $20. This is the third annual business idea competition in which students from all disciplines are encouraged to bring forward their ideas for new businesses and present their “pitches” to a panel of business judges.
